RESIDENCY PRESENTATIONS: SHOW & TELL

A group of participants from this year’s UNM residency will take part in a conversation about their experience with the project. The event will emphasise collaborative aspects of the residency, as well as how the participants’ works were inspired by the local environment and/or community. Initial presentations will be followed by a discussion led by the residency’s mentor, Anne La Berge, regarding artistic discovery, research & killing our darlings to focus on creative solutions. The event will then conclude with an open Q&A session.

MICROWORKSHOP: PAPER, SCISSOR & GLUE: QUOTATIONAL COLLAGE AS A COMPOSITIONAL METHOD WITH LEEVI RÄSÄNEN

Try your hands at composing by using existing music as material for collages. In the workshop, we will cut up, glue and tape snippets of sheet music together to produce new musical material. We’ll provide the sheet music to use as material but you’re also free to bring your own sheet music to use if you want to!

MICROWORKSHOP: DOING NOTHING WITH KRISTJÁN STEINN KRISTJÁNSSON

When doing nothing, we are, and to be is the ground for doing. Non-action can be a spark for creativity as we give ourselves time to be. Experience the act of non-action in one of the few nature reserves in the city, Elliðaárdalur. We will go to the valley and collectively do nothing for 20 minutes by the river. The plan is to meet at the Elliðaárstöð, it’s a 15-minute bus ride from central Reykjavík and from there it’s a short walk to the valley where the river flows. Afterwards, we can reflect or just roam around the trees. Wear suitable clothing.

MICROWORKSHOP: GIVING VOICE TO THE COMMUNITY WITH ORESTIS WILLEMEN

In this workshop, we will use the principles of communal expressive arts therapy to create playful interactions within the group which, through self-guided improvisational means, will materialise into a cohesive whole. A common concern/theme/ issue will be used to inspire and stimulate the creative process.

MICROWORKSHOP: BEER TALK WITH MIKKEL SCHOU

Mikkel Schou (K!ART Ensemble, MINU Festival, UNM DK) will moderate a super chill talk. The topic of the workshop will be some topical questions in the present day new music scene. Participants will be encouraged to share and reflect on their own artistic agenda, to reflect critically on their own practice and that of their peers, and to reiterate, examine and discuss examples of best (and worst) practices that they’ve experienced on the new music scene. All while drinking cold beers provided by UNM Iceland.

MICROWORKSHOP: STORYTELLING WITH ONDI MADETE

Anyone can tell a story. The first step is wanting to tell a story. And we all have stories we want to tell. You don’t need to know the story beforehand. You don’t need anything. But if you like you can carry one thing; it can be anything, a cloth, a toothpick, a leaf, an instrument, an idea, a thought, a moment, a book... and the story starts there. Or nowhere...

MICROWORKSHOP: SUBTITLE AS SUBTEXT WITH FREDERIK HEIDEMANN
